The eighth-ranked Louisville Cardinals will have to do without star running back Michael Bush, who broke his right leg in the season opener, and quarterback Brian Brohm, who tore a ligament on his throwing hand in the third quarter last week against Miami, when they take on the 3-0 Kansas State Wildcats.
After a scare in their opener, the Wildcats took care of business beating Florida Atlantic 45-0 and Marshall 23-7. I can assure you that Louisville is no Florida Atlantic. The Cardinals are off to a 3-0 start as well with three lopsided wins together with last week's impressive victory against the Miami Hurricanes. The loss of Michael Bush, who led the nation last season with 24 touchdowns was difficult enough to take, but now they must go on the road without their beginning quarterback. Hunter Cantwell substituted Brohm last week. He has started before, with the last time being in a losing effort against the Virginia Tech Hokies in last year's Gator Bowl. It will not be an easy task for him to lead the Cards down the field without Bush in the backfield to take some pressure off of him, especially against a solid K-State defense. The Wildcats have not given up an obnoxious touchdown in their last two games and they held Marshall to just 142 total yards.
Louisville will have the difficult task of getting up for this one after such an emotional win last week over Miami. Kansas State is gladly taking the underdog roll and coach Ron Prince would love to take down a high-profile opponent in his first year as head coach. He has history on his side as Louisville is just 4-10 all-time against Big 12 schools.
Obviously, the Cardinals are better than they have been in quite sometime, but two precious injuries to Heisman trophy candidates will indubitably sway the offense. Will these injuries give Kansas State a fighting opening at home? I have put hours of investigate into this matchup and I have continued to look at it throughout the week. If you're going to make any plays this Saturday in college football, you're going to want to be on my winning side in this Big East-Big 12 clash.
